Lee Seung-hwan performs during a rally held on Aug. 15 by some 30,000 protesters demanding the Park Geun-hye government to pass the special bill to investigate the Sewol ferry disaster in front of the Seoul City Hall. Pop-rock icon Lee Seung-hwan is fasting this week in solidarity with families of victims of the Sewol ferry sinking, who want the country to pass a special law related to the disaster. Lee, 50, wrote on his Facebook page Monday that he would join the strike, which calls on the country to pass the special law to get to the bottom of the tragedy, in which over 300 people perished. He said he would participate until Thursday, citing major events he had previously committed to. Lee concluded his Facebook post by saying, “pitiful citizens that we really are…” in reference to the social strife that has gripped the nation in the aftermath of the tragedy.    The ruling and opposition parties are deadlocked on the issue, with the latter this week boycotting parliamentary activities.
