BAFIK offers fitness boot camp By John Redmond British Army Fitness in Korea (BAFIK) is holding a boot camp program until the end of February. Battling the bulge and wanting to get fit? Help is here with this new program. Ex-British Army Warrant Officer Ian Matthews has brought his U.K. army-style boot camp to Seoul. The Itaewon boot camps are located at Namsan Park with the start point outside the Grand Hyatt Hotel main entrance (near the gazebo) every Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and every Saturday at 10.30 a.m. It costs 20,000 won for one session, 80,000 won for six sessions and 140,000 won for 12 sessions. Gathered hearts bring warmth to Guryong

By John Redmond Within a stone's throw of Daechi-dong, Gangnam, one of Seoul's most wealthy and affluent suburbs, and in the direct shadow of grand towers where apartments sell for no less than $2,000,000, there exists a forgotten shanty town ― Guryong village. The residents of this poor village who number in excess of 2,500 live in a sort of legal and literal no man's land. They are there because they were forcibly evicted from their original homes in the 1980s. The area where they used to live was razed to the ground and turned into a plush business and residential district as Seoul became the focus of the world's attention for the Summer Olympics in 1988. The village comprises of tumbledown shacks thrown together from scraps of plywood and tarpaulin and other makeshift materials the residents can get their hands on. The residents are especially vulnerable during the summer and winter months as they have no proper heating systems or other amenities. Rainbow Choir to perform in Australia

By John Redmond The Rainbow Choir, a Korean children’s choir representing the Center for Multi-Cultural Korea, will visit Sydney, Australia from Feb. 23 to 28. They will be performing at several locations there including Campsie Public School, JongBopsa Temple and Lindfield Korean School. For this tour the ensemble will consist of 15 children, accompanied by four teachers and tour organizer, Shim Eui-boon. Two Korean media representatives will travel with the group. A reporter from MK business newspaper, Im Yeung-shin and a producer of MBC TV, Kim Kyung-seok, will document the group's activities and experiences during their visit. About Rainbow Choir The Rainbow Choir comprises of 35 Korean children (boys and girls) from multicultural families, representing over 10 countries, living in Seoul. They are aged between 7 and 13 and have been selected from several schools across Seoul and the surrounding areas.
