Shaman master to perform at Min’s Club

A good luck ceremony will be performed by a shaman master at Min’s Club on Feb. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. According to Korean tradition, at the start of the New Year, every family visits a noted shaman to seek divine intervention for their well-being. To introduce The European Union Chamber of Commerce in Korea (EUCCK) members to this unique tradition and also to help people learn one’s fortune, you may visit a special shaman ritual with renowned master, Ms. Kim Hye Suk. “The shaman master will perform one of the many rituals that will repel evil spirits and make an offering to the Gods to bring about business prosperity and good health,” states a release. “There will also be a group of fortune tellers (disciples of the shaman master) to read your future and many lucky draw prizes to be won!” The event is free for EUCCK members. Min’s Club is located near exit 5 of Anguk Station on line 3.

Mannam offers international celebration of Italian tradition

By John Redmond The Mannam Volunteer Association will host the “Mannam meets Italy ― Italian Carnivale” at Arko Arts Theater ― Studio Darak, in Seoul on Feb. 5. From 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. people are invited to join the festivities as Mannam creates a unique international celebration of this vibrant Italian tradition. “A carnival is a time for people of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities to come together and enjoy the festivity. Mannam is to invite children and adults alike to take part in various games and experience the rich Italian culture through food and music. Top quality entertainment will be provided, including clowns, carnival models, face painting, and an open mic stage. Everyone is expected to be swept away by the carnival beats and the enthusiasm of the dedicated Mannam members and volunteers,” states a press release. Australians mark national day

By John Redmond For expats in Korea, celebrating a national day is a time for people of all walks of life and nationalities to get together and toast a traditional event. With the heavily structured work environment in Korea, what were national holidays back home are often celebrated over the nearest weekend to the actual day. Australia Day fell on Jan. 26, which this year fell on a Thursday With the number of Australians in Korea estimated at almost 10,000 and the fact that many Koreans travel to Australia for both business and study, it comes as no surprise that Australia Day is a big deal here.
