/YonhapBy Rachel Lee Korean-American comedian Margaret Cho showed up at the 2015 Golden Globes and took a moment to mock North Korea with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, who co-hosted the show.Cho’s performance was widely criticized because she used a thick, over-the-top Asian accent to portray a North Korean general.Cho appeared in a skit at the event, playing a North Korean general with a penchant for American entertainment. The fictional general doubled as a journalist for something called “Movies Wow! Comedian makes painful admission on talk show

Park Hwi-soon / Korea Times fileComedian Park Hwi-soon, 39, raised some eyebrows over the weekend when he revealed on a talk show that he underwent two circumcision-related procedures when he was in his 30s. Appearing on “Soksajeong Salon” on Sunday, Park said he wasn’t circumcised in his youth, and continued to put off the procedure in this twenties due to a busy schedule appearing on television programs.  Park decided to have the procedure done shortly after he turned 30, during an eight week hiatus.  Immediately after the surgery, however, Park was forced to return to work ― to a rehearsal for “Gag Concert,” a live-action comedy show from KBS. In one sketch, the script called for an actor to grab Park by the collar. But when he did, Park said some stitches were busted apart.   The comedian said on the talk show that he was forced to have a follow-up procedure after the incident.

Dongdaemun Design Plaza becomes spaceship in parody video

Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), a new Seoul landmark whose distinctive design has been likened to a giant spaceship, was seen “taking off” from earth in a comical news parody.Posted late last month, the video depicts a news report being recorded in front of the plaza in eastern Seoul. The reporter ― former Arirang anchor Scott Thompson ― is introducing Korea’s tourism industry when a part of the DDP begins to light up, and eventually takes off for outer space.The video contains humorous details, such the words “space tour company” written on the side of a passing bus.The video was made by a group called “Monday Morning Creative Lab” in conjunction with WinkTable Production. The video had over 77,000 views on YouTube as of Monday.

Man swindles mentally-disabled 'friend'

Daegu police arrested a man Monday for allegedly swindling some 70 million won ($64,000) from a mentally-disabled man.According to the police, the 26-year-old man, identified by his surname Park, was “friends” with the disabled man, surnamed Kim. Since 2011, Park allegedly took money from Kim’s account on 48 separate occasions.   In 2014, Park allegedly stole Kim’s identity, borrowing 12 million won ($11,000) from moneylenders.Park, a colleague and hometown friend of Kim’s, allegedly offered to help take care of his “friend’s” accounts, police said.
