National Ebola team tells story

/ YonhapNational Ebola emergency support team members have emerged from three weeks of quarantine to speak of their experience in Sierra Leone.Shin Hyung-Shik, 51, led the seven-member team that included two military academy officers and four women from the national military nurse academy. “We are thankful as average citizens of the country for such a special and meaningful experience,” Shin said.The Korean squad worked with an Italian NGO called “Emergency” at an Ebola treatment center in Sierra Leone for a month from December 27. They looked after up to 34 people.Team members said it was not just a physical disease they had to watch out for, but it was also a mental fight. One team member had to be sent to Germany after accidentally having needle contact.

Kim Hyun-joong denies marriage rumor

/ Korea Times file K-pop star Kim Hyun-joong has shot down rumors that he has reconciled with his former girlfriend, who is pregnant.According to his agency, KeyEast, the singer, 28, could not confirm whether she was pregnant because she had rejected his calls. KeyEast also denied that the two would consider getting married.“They were seeing each other last year but decided to go separate ways at the end of the year,” an agency spokesperson said.The response came a day after magazine Woman Sense reported on his reunion with his ex, Miss Choi, who sued him for assault last year. The magazine also said she was now into her 11th week of pregnancy.  A friend told the magazine: "Kim Hyun-joong is worried about his upcoming enlistment in the army while both families are discussing marriage and the baby." Last August, Choi said Kim punched and kicked her, leaving bruises that required two weeks of medical treatment.Choi withdrew an assault charge after Kim apologized.

/ Korea Times file By Rachel LeeThe consumption of “samgyeopsal” or pork belly has soared amid the latest arrival of yellow dust from China. Some Koreans believe the grease in the pork removes pollutants from the body carried in the dust.  According to supermarket chain Lotte Mart, sales of the pork increased 35 percent over the past week from the same period last year.Sales of facial cleanser have doubled, and those of hand sanitizer and mouthwash have also increased by about 10 percent.Air purifiers and dusk masks have been selling strongly, with a 607 and 900 percent rise in sales, according to online retailer Gmarket. Scarves and drink tumblers have also been popular with sales figures doubling, the company said.The Seoul Metropolitan Government issued the first yellow dust warning of the year in the metropolitan area on Sunday. Dust particle concentration in Seoul was measured at 1,044 micrograms per cubic meter on Monday.

Hanam police is escorting a criminal with a cap who stabbed a high school student girl to death in September 2013 / Korea Times fileA man who filmed himself having sex with his consenting teenage girlfriend has again been found not guilty of charges relating to the incident.On appeal, the Supreme Court of Korea maintained the original ruling for the man, surnamed Kim, 27, who used his mobile phone to film himself having sex with his girlfriend, surnamed Park, 17, at a motel in 2012.The court said Kim did not sexually harass or exploit Park and did not distribute or profit from the video. Kim erased the video at Park’s request.The court determined Kim did not infringe the Protection of Children and Adolescents against Sexual Exploitation Act.But it maintained an original sentence imposed on Kim of two years and six months’ jail, suspended for three years, on charges of threatening Park with a weapon and raping her twice after discovering she slept with another man.

Wife sues husband over sex

A Dubai woman has filed for divorce because she says her husband has failed to satisfy her sexually.The woman wanted the divorce because the husband could not have sex with her two to three times a day, the Gulf News reported.“The wife claims that her husband can only have sex with her three to four times a week,” the Gulf News quoted a source as saying. “But she deems that unsatisfactory. After she and her husband failed to reach an amicable settlement, the case was referred to the Sharia Court.“The court informed the woman that her claim for divorce due to what she describes as damages is not sufficient to leave her husband,” the source said. “The wife insisted that her husband fails to satisfy her needs. In her lawsuit, the wife alleged that the defendant should either be able to please her or grant her a divorce.”
