54% of office workers unhappy with manager

A scene from "Misaeng," a hit drama aired on cable channel tvN last year that is based on a webtoon depicting the office life at a trading company .By Kim Bo-eunMore than half of office workers are unhappy with their manager, a recent survey shows.In a survey by education agency Hunet on 471 non-managerial employees, 53.9 percent responded they were dissatisfied with their managers. Only 16.8 percent said they were happy.Reasons employees were discontented were managers’ lack of leadership (44.9 percent), lack of communication skills (21.7 percent), lack of work skills (20.9 percent), and lack of manners and common decency (12.6 percent).Almost all employees surveyed (95.6 percent) agreed that the manager's leadership affected the growth of non-managerial employees as well as the organization.Most employees also agreed (95.6 percent) on the need for managers' self-improvement, citing leadership (67.3 percent), work (16.5 percent) and humanities (12.9 percent) areas they need to study and improve on.Managers themselves also showed concerns about their leadership skills.In a

A man turned himself into a human torch after his live-in lover rejected his marriage proposal in Daegu on Monday.The man, 29, poured gasoline over his body, and then set himself on fire in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Seongdang-dong at about 4 a.m.Police said he had proposed to a woman, 33, with whom he had been living.The woman injured her ankle trying to stop her suicidal lover, and was treated at a nearby hospital.

Woman dies after dermal filler insertion

/ Korea Times FileA woman in her 20s died four days after having fat transplant treatment at a cosmetic surgery clinic in Sinsa-dong, southern Seoul.She had complained of facial pain after the surgery, according to Gangnam Police.She was taken to hospital, but died soon after.A hospital statement said the woman died of septic shock, a life-threatening reaction to a severe infection.The infection spread throughout her body.An autopsy will be done to confirm the cause of the death.The victim’s family plans to sue the clinic.

/ Korea Times file Low-cost airline Jeju Air has added soju, Koreans’ favorite alcohol, to its drinks menu at 5,000 won per drink.“We’ve started to sell soju because there has been an increasing demand for it,” a spokesman said. “We are the only airline that sells it. The others mainly offer whiskey.”The company has also added four snacks, including ham cheese sandwiches and steak. Passengers must order five days before departure date.
