Nam Jin releases five new songs

Nam JinKorea’s veteran singer Nam Jin has released a new mini-album to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his debut. Nam, 68, who dominated the music scene in the 1960s and ‘70s, released the five new songs on March 27, which included a title track called “Partner.” The genres range from traditional “trot” to Latin. He will also hold concerts in cities including Busan and Changwon from May 3 to 31. In addition, he plans to give another concert in October to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his debut.Nam has released a new album almost every year since his debut in 1964. He has released more than 1,000 songs.

Song In-hweJang Seok-jongTwo Korean entrepreneurs pulled off triple crowns at the 17th Moscow International Salon of Inventions and Innovation Technologies , also known as “Archimedes.”Song In-hwe, CEO of Pushpull System, won a gold medal and prizes from the Volga State University of Technology and the Moldova Education Ministry for devising the Pullpull Doorlock, an innovative mechanical door lock that can be opened with just a single motion.Jang Seok-jong, CEO of Eye Zone, was conferred the gold medal and prizes from the National Institute of Inventions of Romania and the Taiwan Invention & Innovation Industry Association for the development of a vision recovery training device. The event took place in Moscow from April 1 to 4, attracting inventors from 18 countries who demonstrated some 1,000 inventions.

Michael AronsonBy Jun Ji-hye Michael Aronson, an expatriate from the United States, creates music videos to promote Korea.He does most of the work necessary to create music videos himself ― writing, composing, recording, directing and editing.“In total, I think I have made 20 music videos, and they are all about Korea,” said Aronson in an interview. “I made my first music video about Kim Yu-na, the Vancouver Olympics figure skating champion, right after the 2010 games were finished.”Others include a video in which he praised the convenience of the Korean subway system. In the video, he used a Korean traditional song that plays over the intercom when trains approach transfer stations, after creatively remaking it with his rap.He also made videos about gimbap, a Korean roll filled with steamed rice and vegetables, and hanbok, Korean traditional clothes.“Other than ‘actors,’ I usually just have someone hold the camera and that is it. Kang to receive German order of merit

Kang Sue-jin, director of the Korea National BalletBy Baek Byung-yeulKang Sue-jin, the Korea National Ballet (KNB) director, will be honored by the state of Baden-Wurttemberg in Germany on May 3rd for her contributions to art and culture, according to KNB on Monday.Kang is widely regarded as the greatest Korean ballerina of her generation. She has been with the Stuttgart Ballet Company, in the state capital of Baden-Wurttemberg, since she was 18. Tate curator to oversee Venice Biennale

Lee Sook-kyungThe Arts Council Korea said Monday that it has appointed Dr. Lee Sook-kyung, curator at Tate in the United Kingdom, as the commissioner for the exhibition at the 2015 Venice Biennale Korean Pavilion.Tate is a prominent institution that houses the U.K.’s national collection of British art and international modern and contemporary art.Lee studied art history and theory at the University of Essex and has since served as exhibition and displays curator at Tate Liverpool and curator for the Tate Collection Asia-Pacific Acquisitions Committee. She also currently serves as a research curator at the Tate Research Center for the Asia-Pacific. The biennale is to take place from May to November of next year. It is a major contemporary art exhibition that takes place in Venice, Italy, every two years. It includes the Venice Film Festival and the Venice Biennale of Architecture.

Kim Bong-hyunKim Bong-hyun, a professor of advertising and public relations at Dongguk University, was inaugurated president of the Korean Advertising Society (KAS). He will serve a one-year term.Kim earned his master’s degree from Michigan State University and his doctorate from the University of Alabama. He has since served as a member of the Korea Communications Commission and vice president of the KAS. The KAS was established in 1989 to promote joint research among experts in advertising. It aims to contribute to the development of our local market by having experts issue any research they may have conducted and publishing two major journals. The English version is “The Journal of Advertising and Promotion Research.”
