Four days from application to license In many countries, obtaining a driver's license means waiting weeks between separate appointments. Korea consolidates the process into a single facility. Applicants complete a pretest traffic safety education, a written exam, a practical test and an on-road test — a sequence that can be finished in as little as four days for a Type 2 automatic license. Korea has signed mutual recognition agreements with more than 140 countries and territories, allowing holders to exchange their license for a local one without retesting. Standardized procedures, automated scoring Examiner assignments are drawn at random each morning, so neither examiner nor applicant knows the pairing in advance. The on-road test is unforgiving by design: examiners sit in the passenger seat with auxiliary brakes and use them the moment an error creates risk, and any intervention ends the attempt. VIDEO Emptied streets after tragic Halloween night in Itaewon

By Lee Min-young, Kim Kang-minA day after the deadly accident in Itaewon, the area has been cordoned off by police tape, and personal belongings of victims were scattered along the edges of an alley in Seoul's Itaewon on Sunday afternoon, where hundreds of people celebrating Halloween were crushed together the night before.This 4-meter wide alley was packed with thousands of people who came to celebrate Halloween last night, leaving at least 153 people dead and 133 injured, as of 6 p.m. Sunday.The death toll could rise further, as 37 people sustained serious injuries, officials said.An estimated 100,000 gathered in the area for the first Halloween since the lifting of remaining COVID-19 restrictions.The government has declared the district of Yongsan-gu, where Itaewon is located, a special disaster area.Joint memorial altars will be set up at Seoul Plaza and Itaewon Monday morning.

At least 153 people have been killed with 133 others injured in a deadly stampede in Seoul's Itaewon district, as huge crowds of partygoers stampeded at late-night Halloween celebrations, fire authorities said Sunday.The accident took place Saturday night in a narrow downhill alley near Hamilton Hotel in the famous nightlife district after a throng of partygoers flooded into it, according to witnesses.Police said they are making utmost efforts in confirming the identity of the victims and then making contacts with their family members.

Jin of BTS to fulfill mandatory military service from end of this year

By Kim RahnJin, the oldest member of K-pop juggernaut BTS, will begin his compulsory military duty soon, the group's agency, Big Hit Music, said, Monday.The announcement comes amid ongoing discussions at the National Assembly on revising the Military Service Act to exempt the seven members of the boy band from military service to recognize their contribution to the country's culture industry, or at least to partially allow their group activities during the service.The agency and Jin, who is 30 years old, have delayed his conscription until the end of this year according to a 2020 revision to the Military Service Act, which allows a person in the entertainment industry to postpone the draft until the age of 30 if the person has received state medals and the culture minister recommends him for the postponement for his contribution to elevating national prestige.

Barbers take their talent to world competitions

With the increase in high-quality hairdressers, Korea’s old-school barbershops, or “yibalso” in Korean, became far less prevalent in the nineteen eighties. However, more traditional men’s haircutting and beard-trimming services are finding new popularity here in the form of trendy but retro barbershops.A preliminary round for this event called World Barber Classic Korea takes place in Seoul every year. This year’s competition was held at Seocho District in Seoul where hundreds of people either working as professional barbers or those interested in barber culture flocked to watch the event last Tuesday.The winner of this tournament gets an opportunity to participate in the final round of House of Seven and compete for Asia's champion title. 7 people dead in Daejeon mall fire

By Ko Dong-hwanA fire broke out at a mall in Daejeon Monday morning, killing at least seven people and injuring one as they were working at an underground level.The fire started before the mall in the city's Yuseong District opened for business, resulting in no casualties among shoppers. The only victims were employees of the mall in delivery, cleanup and fire prevention as well as one unidentified person. Three of them were initially taken to a hospital, two of whom died while being treated. At about 2:30 p.m., two more workers were found dead inside the mall. A few hours later, three more were discovered dead.President Yoon Suk-yeol on Tuesday visited a mourning altar and comforted the families of the victims and thanked firefighters for their work after being briefed by officials on the damage, his office said.

By Choi Jin-woo A dog groomer in her 20s is suspected of illegally fostering dogs and neglecting them inside her home.Earlier in May, CARE received a report that four to five dogs were being neglected at a home in Incheon’s Michuhol District, where the dogs were confined in unsanitary and inhumane conditions. The dogs had been taken from shelters by a woman who is said to have falsely identified herself as a verified house sitter.The group said it will take legal action against the woman as soon as they locate her and the missing dogs.
