Yu-na breaks up with hockey player boyfriend: report

Kim Won-joong, left, hockey player, and Kim Yu-na, retired figure skater / YonhapOlympic gold medalist figure skater Kim Yu-na and her hockey player boyfriend, Kim Won-joong, have broken up, a celebrity news site claimed this week. Star News cited numerous sources in reporting the split, but did not say when the breakup occurred. The retired 24-year-old “Ice Queen,” now the honorary ambassador for the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics, had previously acknowledged her relationship with Kim Won-joong, after photos of the couple circulated on the Internet.The 30-year-old hockey player Kim recently came under fire for visiting a Thai massage parlor while serving his military duty in June. On his way back from the parlor, Kim was involved in a car accident with two others.The two first met each other at Korea University, where both were students, and had trained at the national training center in Taeneung, northeastern Seoul.

Man 'assaults' woman over mobile phone etiquette

A man was arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman who blocked his path while talking on her mobile phone, Yonhap News Agency reports.Okcheon Police Station of North Chungcheong province said Tuesday that they had issued an arrest warrant for the 38-year-old man surnamed Kim for attacking a 45-year-old woman surnamed Lee.Kim allegedly punched her several times on a street nearby a public bathhouse in Okcheon County, Sunday.Kim's attack left Lee with injuries requiring seven weeks of medical treatment.“I beat her up because I was mad that she was blocking my way while talking on her phone,” said Kim during a police investigation.The police arrested Kim after analyzing footage from surveillance cameras and said Kim had a record of mental health issues.

Website offers sex discounts for prostitution reviews

The Korean operators of a prostitution website were busted for providing information and discounts to 210,000 members, reports said Wednesday.Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency’s cyber crime investigation team said it had arrested a man surnamed Kim, 33, for operating the website, which offers discounts to those members who provided reviews, and shows advertisements for brothels. Two other personnel were booked without detention.The gang led by Kim first started their business two years ago by opening up an office in Shandong, China, and diverting their servers to Japan, accumulating 800 million won worth of profit.They have been receiving 100,000 won to 300,000 won for advertising or linking sex services to online users.The investigation team said members proven to have used the site to buy sex would be punished.

Police took this photo after arresting two foundry owners, who allegedly melted millions of old 10-won coins to produce 377,000 kilograms of copper bars at four furnaces. They allegedly earned 1.97 billion won ($1.8 million) in illegal gains by selling the copper bars.
