One-third of plastic surgery patients 'unsatisfied'

By Lee Ji-hyeKorea is known for its high rate of plastic surgery as well as the accessibility of such procedures. However, a recent consumer study shows that around one-third of those who go under the knife are not satisfied with the outcome. The Korea Consumer Agency (KCA) conducted a survey on 1,000 cosmetic surgery patients over the course of three years. Among them, 323 people (32.3 percent) replied that the results were “unsatisfactory” while 170 people (17 percent) said they ended up with asymmetrical structures, scars or infections. Among the patients, 678 people received double-eyelid surgery, 256 people had nose jobs, and 110 people had facial contour surgeries. Some had multiple procedures. The KCA said it had received 16,354 calls about plastic surgery and clinics over the past three years. It said the number of people seeking advice on plastic surgery has been on the rise. Among the calls, 11,367 (69.5 percent) involved “complaints about cosmetic surgery results,” 3,612 (22.1 percent) were about “refunds and service complaints,” and 52

Half of working Koreans have no Christmas plans

/ YonhapAlmost 50 percent of working Koreans in their 20s to 40s do not have anything planned for the Christmas holiday, Yonhap News Agency reported.Citing a survey conducted on 1,000 Koreans by travel site Expedia, the report said that 44.9 percent of respondents said they had no special plans for Dec. 25. When asked why they did not have any special plans, 21.8 percent said, "There's just too much work" while 17.1 percent said that "finding the right time for their loved ones was difficult." Nearly 13 percent responded that they do not have plans due to "financial difficulties".Asked what an ideal Christmas would look like, more than 30 percent of respondents answered that they wished to hold a party to celebrate the holiday with their friends; and 21.8 percent answered that they needed a "peaceful, calm rest in order to heal."

'Bad mood' teen smashes 21 cars

A Busan teenager has been charged with property damage after attacking 21 cars, and breaking into a supermarket to steal cigarettes, Munhwa Ilbo reports.The youth, 18, caused five million won damage in about 25 minutes when he used rocks to smash the side mirrors and windows of 21 cars in a parking lot in Busan’s Haeundae area.The incident happened on October 26.Police tracked down the youth from thumbprints he left on a car.The youth reportedly told police he smashed the cars because he was “in a bad mood.”

Jo In-sung / Korea Times fileHallyu star Jo In-sung flew to Beijing on Monday as Korea’s sole representative in an influential TV awards ceremony.The seasoned actor, 34, who starred in the recent SBS TV series “It’s Okay, That’s Love,” is representing Korea in the Esquire Man at His Best Awards. Now in its 11th year, the awards are highly regarded in Chinese media as they celebrate the achievements of public figures in such areas as entertainment, business, sports, public services and education.Chinese guests this year’s include top actresses Zhang Ziyi and Fan Bingbing, actor and singer Cheung Hok Yau and film director Chen Kaige.   A local website released a video clip on Monday morning of Jo, casually attired, entering Incheon International Airport to leave for Beijing.Other outlets reported that Jo was scheduled to do media interviews on Monday, and then attend the awards ceremony the next day.In January, Jo became the first Korean to win the Fashionista of the Year award at the SOHU Fashion Achievement Awards in Shanghai.
