NANTA presents special January discount NANTA presents a special January discount for all afternoon and evening, weekday and weekend shows with each venue having its own schedule. It is holding a Magic No. 11 promotion in January at all three of its Seoul theaters. Come with a friend and get a 20 percent discount (minimum two people required to get the discount). The VIP seats are 60,000 won but with the 20 percent discount are 48,000 won and S seats that are regularly 50,000 won are 40,000 won with the discount. At all NANTA Theaters in Seoul ― Gangbuk, Myeong-dong and Gangnam. To get the discount you must reserve online. Go to the NANTA website. In the “ticket type” section, click "Goodbye 2010 20%." Australian a cappella group Suade returns to Seoul

By John Redmond Australian all-male a cappella group Suade, a quintet renown for a comedic and versatile approach to popular music, will return to Seoul on Jan. 26 as part of the Australia Day celebrations to mark the launch of the Australia/Korea Year of Friendship at the Grand Hyatt. This launch is part of a year of events in Korea and Australia as organized by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) together with its Korean counterpart. Suade last performed in Seoul at the AustCham Business Awards on Oct. 10 of last year and delighted the audience with an original and highly entertaining show combining classics from the likes of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and Curtis Mayfield’s “People Get Ready,” to a hilarious medley parodying popular K pop tunes (complete with girl group dance moves). Shakespeare troupe seeks talent

By John Redmond A Seoul-based Shakespeare troupe is seeking talent for its upcoming production of “Macbeth” to be staged early this year. Actors Without Bard'ers (AWB), a community-based theater group comprising of expats and Koreans, is looking for actors and dancers of all races, ages, and nationalities. The AWB first took to the stage in December 2009, performing a diverse collection of Shakespeare scenes at Roofers bar in Itaewon, Seoul, and has since presented many of the Bard of Avon’s greatest works. The company formed with a mission to address the dearth of English-language Shakespeare performances in the country and it has taken a leading role in bringing more of the playwright's work to audiences. It is an established part of the expat theater community along with such names as BH Productions, Seoul Players and Seoul City Improv.
