GoSang excludes artificial ingredients from all dishesSong Soo-mi, owner of GoSangBy Bahk Eun-jiSong Soo-mi runs a Korea temple cuisine restaurant named GoSang at Mirae Asset Center 1 building in central Seoul.Song says she has been trying to live up to the name GoSang which means graceful or elegant in Korean by offering top quality food.The restaurant serves strictly vegetarian dishes, but does not use typical Korean ingredients such as garlic, spring onions and chives.“Those ingredients are not used in temple food, although garlic and spring onions are used in almost all Korean food,” Song said.Following the principle of temple food recipes, GoSang does not use any artificial flavor enhancers.“I keep telling my employees to prepare food as if their family will eat it,” Song said.She prioritizes maintaining the quality of ingredients as it represents her philosophy of food.Song explained what drove her to open the restaurant, recalling the hard times she spent with her child who suffered from atopic dermatitis.“I paid tremendous attention to

Sunny to host radio program

SunnyGirls’ Generation member Sunny will host MBC radio FM4U’s “FM Date,” beginning May 12, according to the broadcaster. She will greet listeners each night at 8 p.m. “I listened to a lot of radio growing up, and I still do,” Sunny said. “It’ll give me a chance to interact with listeners. I hope to become a DJ who listeners can identify with.” Sunny has previously appeared as a regular guest on MBC radio program “Shimshimtapa,” and also as co-DJ of a DMB radio program for nine months. Regular guests on “FM Date” will include comedian Ahn Young-mi and actor Park Geun-hyoung.

Billboard lauds AKMU for new video

Akdong Musician (AKMU)Billboard commended brother-sister duo Akdong Musician (AKMU) on Monday for an “adorable part two” to their first music video “200%.” AKMU released the music video of “Give Love” on May 2, which Billboard described as a “peppy, breezy track that sees the duo rapping on the verses with a syrupy, hook-laden chorus.” AKMU’s agency YG Entertainment had said earlier that the third single for AKMU’s album “Play” will be chosen by the public. “Give Love” reached No.3 on the K-Pop Hot Chart 100 so far, and thus became the duo’s third single, following “Melted.” AKMU debuted in January after placing first in season two of SBS survival audition program “K-Pop Star” in 2013.

Prof. to represent Korea on int'l committee

Dr. Kim Kwang-joDr. Kim Kwang-jo, a professor of computer science at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), will represent Korea on the Technical Committee of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP). According to KAIST, Kim was selected for his contributions to the advancement of security and cryptology research during the last 30 years. “Through this IFIP role, I would like to present Korea’s outstanding information and security technology to the world and demonstrate that we are one of the world’s leading nations in security technology,” Kim said. Kim has served as director of the International Association for Cryptologic Research, chair of the AsiaCrypt Steering Committee, president of the Korea Institute of Information Security and Technology and visiting professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The IFIP, established in 1960, is a leading global organization for information and communications technologies and sciences.

Actress announces plans for wedding

 Um Ji-wonActress Um Ji-won has made it clear that her wedding will be as simple as possible. The 37-year-old will tie the knot with a 39-year-old architect at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul on May 27. Some 200 guests will be invited to the event, and they will make do with just a ring as a wedding gift. They will also skip the pyebaek, a traditional ceremony at which the newlyweds pay respects to each others’ families after the wedding. Um debuted in 2002 in the MBC drama “Golden Wagon” and has since appeared in nearly 30 dramas and films. Her husband-to-be studied at Yonsei University and currently runs his own architectural design company.

9-term lawmaker dies

Park Jun-gyuPark Jun-gyu, a former National Assembly speaker, died Saturday from a chronic ailment. He was 89. Park served as a lawmaker in the fifth through 10th, 13th and 15th National Assemblies, and served as the parliament’s speaker three times. He was active as a politician for 40 years, after joining the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations in 1948. He became a lawmaker of the Democratic Party in 1960, but was banned from running for office following the military coup in 1979. He rejoined the Assembly in 1988 as a member of the Democratic Justice Party. Park is recognized as one of only three former lawmakers to serve nine terms. The other two are former President Kim Young-sam and former Prime Minister Kim Jong-pil. His funeral will take place today at 8 a.m. and he will be laid to rest in Daejeon National Cemetery.

Actor Shin is dating ballerina

Kim Joo-won Shin Seong-rok Actor Shin Seong-rok and ballerina Kim Joo-won have confirmed they are dating. According to Shin’s agency, HB Entertainment, their friendship developed into a relationship in 2012, and the two have been dating for a year and nine months. The confirmation comes a year after both denied suggestions they were dating when the first set of rumors spread. Shin debuted on SBS drama “Shoot for the Stars” in 2003, and received critical acclaim for his appearance as a psychopath on “My Love from the Star” earlier this year. Kim has served as a principal dancer of the Korea National Ballet since 1998, and is currently teaching at Sungshin Women’s University.

Eddy KimBy Kwon Ji-younEddy Kim looked nothing like Kim Jung-hwan when he stepped into The Korea Times newsroom on Thursday.He looked slimmer and taller, with longish hair and an air of confidence that had escaped him while he was auditioning two years ago on Super Star K, an audition program.Kim Jung-hwan made his debut as Eddy Kim on April 11, with a mini album that he co-produced containing music he had composed, and lyrics he had written and sung.“When I decided to appear on Super Star K, I had been serving military duty,” he said. “The officers suggested I audition, and I thought I should take this chance to see how the public reacts to my songs.”Kim’s peers on Super Star K have all made their debuts — Roy Kim in November 2012, and Jung Jun-young in October 2013.
