Korean midfielder happy to draw attention from opponents

And it suits Hwang just fine. "I hope they pay a lot of attention to me," Hwang said Wednesday at the prematch press conference at Estadio Guadalajara in Zapopan, western Mexico, the site of the Group A match showdown between the two countries at 7 p.m. Thursday (local time), or 10 a.m. Friday (Korean time). "We have many players that are better than I am, and they will end up getting opportunities if the focus is on me," Hwang added. "I have faith that our attackers will capitalize on their chances. The important thing for us is to execute our plans to the best of our abilities." Korea went down in the second half against Czechia before Hwang netted the equalizer and then set up the go-ahead goal. But Hwang said he isn't content with just winning the first match. A former national team pitcher has been implicated in a widening match-fixing scandal in South Korean baseball, sources said Wednesday.According to sources, the Gyeonggi Bukbu Provincial Police Agency will summon the pitcher, currently in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), for his alleged involvement in match-fixing schemes. The name of the pitcher is being withheld, but he previously represented the country internationally and is among the top 20 in wins this season. The pitcher will be the fourth KBO player to come under investigation for match-fixing this month after Lee Tae-yang of the NC Dinos, outfielder Moon Woo-ram, who plays for the military club Sangmu in the Futures League, the KBO's minor league, and Yoo Chang-sik of the Kia Tigers. The police suspect that this pitcher had deliberately walked a batter in a game around the same time as Yoo, who told police this week he'd fixed two games in April 2014. Yoo was then pitching for another club, the Hanwha Eagles.Last week, Changwon prosecutors indicted Lee without physical detention for allegedly taking cash in exchange for

Rio de Janeiro for all pockets

By Valter Junior PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil -- Traveling to take part in a great event isn’t cheap. Prices go high and budgets get squeezed. Although the real, the Brazilian currency, lost value compared to other currencies such as the dollar, euro and pound, it will be expensive to visit Rio de Janeiro during the Games. The city is experiencing an Olympic sized increase on its prices. With 500,000 people expected to arrive in the marvelous city, prices are inflated.A hotel in the best neighborhoods can have rates over $700 for each night, three times the low-season prices. The first weekend of the Olympics and dates near August 14, when Usain Bolt is expected to race in the 100-meter final, is the period most in demand for accommodations. People don’t seem to be complaining about hotel room prices or, at least, are prepared to pay the high prices. The vacancy rate for hotels is now just 10 percent. Fans have even rented motel rooms so they can watch the biggest sports stars. Those who bargain might be able to get reduced rates, but will have to sleep far away from the city&rsqu
