Folk singer musically mourns Sewol tragedy
Kim Chang-wan during recording of "Yellow Ribbon," his recently written song dedicated to the Sewol tragedyBy Ko Dong-hwan An old-time band leader wrote a tribute song for the Sewol tragedy and aired it on his radio program, Chosun Ilbo said Monday.Kim Chang-wan, lead vocal from the 1977 folk music group San Ul Rim who also does part-time acting, played Monday on his SBS Power FM radio show the song entitled “Yellow Ribbon.”Kim said during the program, which he hosts, he wrote the song Sunday around three in the afternoon. He said it took fairly a short time to write it, but singing it often got him emotionally riveted to sorrowful sentiment, causing him to cry every time.The song’s studio recording was completed Monday morning at one, he said.Kim said Yellow Ribbon, written during dripping teary rains which continued since Sunday morning, will hopefully encourage listeners to have hope. He added it was dedicated to not just families of the victims, but those of the younger generations as well.Yellow Ribbon is available online in YouTube and Twitter.
