PHOTOS Mt. Namsan hugs Year 2018

People watch the first sunrise of 2018 from Mt. Namsan. / Korea Times photos by Shim Hyun-chulBy Ko Dong-hwanWith every turn of the year is something to fuss about, people busied themselves walking up Seoul’s Mt. Namsan early on Monday morning to see the year’s first sunrise.Located in the capital’s central region in Jung-gu, the comparatively low 262-meter hill offers easy access for Seoul residents of various ages wanting a breathtaking panoramic view of the city.Whether with family members or lovers, pets or high-definition cameras, the trekkers made their way to the top in sub-zero temperatures to wait for the first sunlight of the year. At 7:47 a.m., according to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the sun rose, with viewers capturing the moment on cameras and smartphones.Smiling, or thoughtful, happy or sad, the beauty of the moment left the early morning crowd and photographers wondering what 2018 might bring. The photographs will always be a memory of that wonderful sunrise ― as long as someone does not delete the pictures.
