Entertainment industry lashes out at Clara

Clara Lee / Korea Times fileThe Korea Entertainment Management Association (KEMA) is calling on celebrity Clara to halt her activities in the entertainment industry until she resolves a high-profile legal dispute.  KEMA said in a statement Wednesday that the Swiss-born British actress is “disrupting the nation’s entertainment industry” and warned of penalties should she continue working.Clara last month filed a suit demanding termination of her contract with Polaris Entertainment claiming the owner of the firm, Lee Kyu-tae, made sexually harassing comments to her.The agency countersued the 29-year-old actress, claiming she fabricated the claims as a ploy to escape her contract. “As a star and a center of this scandal, she must ask for public’s permission to continue her career,” the statement said. “She must halt her career now because she hasn’t publicly apologized for raising the scandal.”KEMA claimed that Clara’s legal action was reminiscent of a suit she filed against her former agency in 2012.Established in 20

Famed 'Ode to My Father' store faces foreclosure

Kkotbuine, appearing in "Ode to My Father" movie poster, above, attracted tourists with the movie's huge success. / YonhapAn imported goods store in Busan made famous in the Korean box office smash “Ode to My Father” is facing foreclosure, reports said this week.  The store, called “Kkotbuine,” is located in Gukje Market. In the film, the protagonist works at store by the same name.  With the film’s success, 80,000 to 100,000 tourists have been flooding the market each day. But the booming crowds haven’t translated into revenue for the actual store. The operator of the tiny store, identified by her surname Shin, said she may have to close the business due to a steep increase in the rent she has to pay. “The tourists didn’t buy any goods and only took pictures around the store,” Shin told Star Today, an online newspaper affiliated with the Maeil Business Newspaper. She added that other shop owners had complained to her that the tourists were blocking access to the market.
