Singer CLSinger CL, of K-pop girl group 2NE1, has been nominated for Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people of 2015.The magazine said the singer, 24, whose real name is Lee Chae-lin, is teaming with music manager Scooter Braun for her American debut.The online poll for the list closes at 11:59 p.m. on April 10, with winners announced three days later. The official Time 100 list will be released on April 16.CL is the third singer to be nominated for the list, with Rain and Psy previously making it.

Sewol disaster: Woman sues Internet critics

By Lee Ji-hyeA woman who was accused of giving false information during an interview about the Sewol ferry disaster rescue operation last April has sued her online critics, the Donga Ilbo reports.Hong Ga-hye, 27, sued 839 online critics between October and December l last year, and is working with a lawyer demanding two to five million won, according to the prosecution."I felt humiliated after the terrible comments that were made about me online, so I sued them," Hong was quoted as saying. She said she had never asked them for a specific amount, but it was the critics who had pleaded to settle.Hong was found not guilty on January 9 after the Coast Guard sued her for defamation for stating on air that "coast guards are blocking civilian divers carrying out rescue operations by telling them to simply kill time near the site."Hong was interviewed on the Maeil Broadcasting Network (MBN) and said that personnel and equipment support that was to be given to civilian divers never came.

Seoul cancels taxi license over fare rejection

It is the first time the city has canceled a license.According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, charging a customer without using the taxi meter or refusing to take short-distance fare can result in a large fine or a license confiscation.The city confirmed that the driver had been reported nine times for allegedly overcharging customers and had 10 warnings for rejecting rides.Total charges include cancelling his license, worth 70 million won ($63,553), along with the vehicle confiscation, worth an additional 90 million won ($81,711).The city plans to confiscate the driver's license plate and file an official report to affiliated organizations, such as taxi companies.The city also announced further plans to decrease cab fares as well as introduce education and training programs for drivers.

Among rural regions, Cheorwon County in Gangwon Province achieved 77.41.The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety released the survey results Thursday. The assessment looked at diet safety and nutrition as the key points for evaluation, along with food safety awareness and education among various regions. The national average was 67.54. Big cities such as Seoul averaged 67.65, mid-sized cities 67.87, while in agricultural areas it was 67.34.The government has designated district offices nationwide to increase the level of food safety and awareness."Many areas that scored low on this evaluation were places that had not installed children’s cafeteria managing centers, or regions that had incidences of food poisoning," an official at the ministry said.Regions with better scores also had comparatively higher levels of awareness and food safety education programs.This food safety e
