Chefs offer journey of flavors

By Kim Rahn For those missing the exotic food they enjoyed during overseas trips, hotels provide authentic international cuisine by inviting chefs from top-class hotels and restaurants around the world. The Ritz-Carlton Seoul has invited chef Qingquen Lin from China’s famous Cantonese restaurant Lai Heen to present authentic Cantonese dishes through March 31 at the hotel’s Chinese restaurant Chee Hong. With more than 10 years of experience at China’s super deluxe hotels including the Ritz-Carlton Guangzhou, his classic and contemporary menu balances colors, smells, texture and tastes in each dish. La Heen has been recognized by several magazines. During the promotion in Seoul, the chef offers delicacies such as braised abalone and sea urchin roe, black moss steamed chicken with mushroom and vegetable, steamed shark’s fin with green laver sauce, double-boiled black truffle and minced meat, and double-boiled fresh milk with bird’s nest soup. Finnair offers fast, reliable flights between Korea and Europe

By Lee Hyo-sik Finnair, Finland’s flagship carrier, has emerged as a viable flight option for many Korean business and leisure travelers heading to Europe. This is on the back of its competitive pricing policy, tailored-made customer services and convenient connecting flights at Helsinki International Airport, the head of its operation here said. In an interview with The Korea Times, Jani Peuhkurinen, representative director of Finnair Korea, said that it takes only nine hours to fly to Helsinki from Incheon, stressing the airline has been offering punctual, reliable and safe flight services since June 2008. ``Under the ``fast airline between Asia and Europe’’ slogan, we are offering exceptional flight experiences to Korean and European air passengers. We have been quite successful here over the past three years, thanks to our loyal Korean customers,’’ Peuhkurinen said. Abu Dhabi emerges as popular tourist destination

By Lee Hyo-sik Abu Dhabi is attracting a greater number of Korean tourists, boosted by the Dec. 10 inauguration of Etihad Airways’ direct flight between Incheon and the capital of United Arab Emirates. “Judging from our initial business performance, we are quite confident that Abu Dhabi will emerge as a new popular tourist destination in the Middle East sooner or later,” said Kwak Ho-chul, country manager of Etihad Airways Korea Office. Marina Bay Sands’ ArtScience Museum draws mixed reactions By Park Si-soo SINGAPORE ㅡ It could be ideal to place a casino, hotel, top brand shops and luxurious restaurants in one building. But what about adding an art and science museum to the lineup? Marina Bay Sands Hotel, the new landmark in this city state, made public this “odd” blend on Feb. 19 ㅡ opening white lotus-shaped ArtScience Museum at the giant entertainment complex. It has drawn mixed reactions from visitors. Designed by Israeli-born renowned architect Moshe Safdie, it wowed some customers with its unique designs. The building is shaped like a lotus flower in blossom, or 10 fingers. Some of the galleries are located inside these finger-shaped structures. Singapore Biennale beckons art-loving visitors

By Lee Hyo-sik From March 13 through May 15, the Singapore Biennale 2011, organized by the Singapore Art Museum, will kick off throughout the city state, drawing tens of thousands art-loving visitors from all over the world. The Biennale was established in 2006 as Singapore’s premier platform for international dialogue in contemporary art, placing the nation’s artists within a global context and fostering productive collaborations with the international arts community.
