The sea surface has risen slightly since yesterday. It has been raining all morning. When it rains, the cross also gets wet. I place the two rockfish I bought at the market during the day onto a cutting board. I put strength into my hand holding the knife, and the feeling of fish bone, muscle, and flesh getting crushed spreads through my entire body. The vibration inside my grip forms a faint circle and spreads to the furthest parts of my body. Touching food ingredients that are half-alive always feels uncomfortable. An apathetic thrill and aversion of breaking a taboo that has been violated for a long time, of killing something dead, occurs. I lay out the rockfish, whose scales and guts I have removed, in a large pot. I add green onions, ginger, and refined rice wine and put it to a boil. I remove the cooked fish meat, set it aside, and boil the fish head and bones once more

We are happy to report that this year's entries once again did not disappoint. Especially notable were the high proficiency of English demonstrated by the contestants and their discerning taste in serious contemporary Korean literature. The overall excellence in the readability of the translations demanded close comparison of the entries with their original Korean works, which made the final decisions in both the poetry and fiction/drama categories quite difficult. Accuracy in literary translation refers to fidelity not only in meaning but in aesthetics, from narrative craft and style to imagery and lyricism. Outstanding elementary school studentsKim is a caring leader in her communityKim Ye-wonKim Ye-won, 10, a fourth grader at Jaeun Elementary School in Sinan, South Jeolla Province, is a warm-hearted leader who tries to help friends who are going through hardship. She was the class president in the first semester.With curiosity and patience, she does not give up on questions to which she wants to know the answer, and this naturally leads her to self-motivated learning.
