Singer Koo Ha-ra's ex-boyfriend indicted after sex video scandal

Singer Koo Ha-ra, left, and her ex-boyfriend. Korea Times file, YonhapBy Dong Sun-hwaSinger Koo Ha-ra's ex-boyfriend was indicted without detention for allegedly assaulting her and posing a threat that he would leak a sex video of the pair, Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday. The ex-boyfriend, surnamed Choi, was indicted on suspicion of violating the exemption law concerning the punishment of sex crimes. He was also charged with injuring and threatening Koo. Koo avoided indictment because it was found that Choi began the alleged assault by kicking her leg, according to the office. The alleged assault took place on Sept. 13 at Koo's house in Seoul. The pair had a fight and Choi called Gangnam Police after the incident, claiming Koo had attacked him. But Koo insisted that Choi started the trouble. On Sept. 27, Koo sued Choi for allegedly threatening to send a sex video of the pair to the media outlet Dispatch. “Koo has been under severe emotional distress due to the threat, so this was considered as well," a prosecution official said.
