Nine-year-old drives a car 'for fun'

By Lee Kyung-min Two boys, 9 and 12, took turns driving a car, and crashed into three cars, fortunately leaving no one hurt, Uijeongbu police said Tuesday. The nine-year-old took his uncle’s car key and started driving the Avante around his apartment block with his friend in the passenger seat. They drove about 1km, and crashed into three parked vehicles, a Tucson, a Trajet XG and a Morning. Then they parked the car, and played in a playground nearby.Passersby who saw them driving called the police, and they took the boys to the police station for questioning. Both of them won’t face legal punishment since they are too young to be subject to punishment by facing criminal charges. The law dictates that offences committed by children under the age of 14 not face criminal charges as they are deemed incapable of dealing with the legal consequences of their crimes.

'We're not a couple. He's my father!'

By Lee Kyung-min A daughter said she is tired of becoming the gratuitous public gossip whenever she is seen with her boyish-looking father, 40, as people mistake them as a couple, KBS TV program “Hello” reported Monday.“My father and I went to an amusement park one day, and I heard people talking about us, ’What’s that guy doing with a girl that young?’,” said the middle-school girl.“It gets me frustrated that I have to care at all about what other people think when I’m just having a good time with my dad,” added the girl during the show. The father, who obviously does not look his age, said looking younger is not something to be coveted.“Some told me that I look as young as a 27-year-old. I forced myself to drink to get huge bags under the eyes to look older,” he said.“I heard that, these days, a woman who is dating a much older guy for money calls the man ‘daddy.’ I feel uncomfortable that people might actually think that’s the case when I’m with my daughter,” he ad

Virginia governor's flip-flopping causes uproar among Korean Americans

Gov. Terry McAuliffe. By Lee Kyung-min Korea’s recent nationwide rapture regarding the terminology of the waters surrounding Dokdo in U.S. history books is at risk of being turned into nothing.   The nation was joyous of the passing of a bill by the Virginia legislature last Friday that requires the simultaneous use of the terms “East Sea” and “Sea of Japan” in new school textbooks for the first time. Following the Senate approval, the bill is now headed to the Virginia’s House of Delegates. With the expected floor vote due in mid-February, the bill must be signed by Gov. Terry McAuliffe to go into effect. Without the governor’s signature, the bill remains pending with no effect. This worst possible scenario is becoming a reality in the eyes of The Voice of Korean Americans (VoKA) in Virginia.McAuliffe is reportedly denying that he ever promised that he would support the bill that requires the simultaneous use of the two terms, according to Peter Kim, head of VoKA, it was reported.Concerning the governor&rsqu

Women preferring funny guys scientifically proven

A sense of humor has been one of the top criteria for women to determine whether a man is attractive or not. And, according to a study at Stanford University School of Medicine, biology makes women irresistible to funny men. The study involved 22 children aged six to 13. The researchers asked participants to look at a series of clips, some funny and some not so funny. Their response was measured by a functional magnetic resonance imaging machine (fMRI). After watching the clips, the children answered the questionnaires about the clips on a number scale. During the funny clips, girl's brains showed more heightened activity than boys. According to the researchers, it meant that the girls felt more of a sense of reward in watching the funny clips than boys did. "Our data for the first time disclose that sex differences in humor appreciation already exist in young children," they wrote. And the researchers said this is the reason why attractive women sometimes go for not as physically attractive, but ones with a great sense of humor. A potential mate's humor is e
