Consumers blame OTT service for Coupang membership fee hike

Coupang Play wins a bid to relay the Korean national football team's international matches exclusively online from 2021. Courtesy of CoupangBy Kim Jae-heunSome consumers are urging Coupang to get rid of its money-losing over-the-top (OTT) service, which they blame for the planned price hike of online retailer's membership from 2,900 won to 4,990 won in June, according to industry analysts Monday. Korea's largest e-commerce firm by sales raised the membership price for newcomers as of Dec. 30. Existing users were excluded from the price increase. However, after Coupang's operating loss accumulated to an all-time-high of over 6 trillion won in 2021, it decided to charge the same fee for everyone. “I think the price of Coupang's membership became expensive because of Coupang Play, which I don't use. Most people already use Netflix or Disney Plus. I hope that Coupang stops operating its OTT service and instead, increase its membership price by small amount,” 33-year-old Jang said. Coupang has been freezing its membership price since the launch of the program back in 2008. Its

Courtesy of LS C&SBy Kim Jae-heunLS Cable & System (LS C&S) is strengthening its business partnerships with local medium-sized firms to develop new products and cooperate in the sales business, the company said, Sunday. The company recently started selling LAN cable test devices along with their manufacturer, Kangwon Electronics. The test terminal quickly inspects short circuits or wiring errors when a cable is inserted into it. When there is an abnormality, an LED on the device lights up intuitively. It also allows self-tests and long-distance inspections, thereby reducing labor costs and construction time when building a cabled network. There is no on-and-off switch on the test device and it only supplies power while operating, to save battery life. The company has applied for a patent for this function. LS C&S said that its technology and Kangwon Electronics' market information produced synergy from the test terminal's development stage

Kitanotatsujin's microneedle patch cosmetics products / Courtesy of KitanotatsujinBy Kim Jae-heunDespite Japan being the largest market for microneedle patch products, application of the technology in the cosmetics field is still uncommon, something that Kitanotatsujin is looking to take advantage of and develop further.“Beauty products adopting microneedle patches may not be a strange thing in Korea, but it is very new in Japan. Japanese customers are conservative with cosmetic products and we were worried some might find it uncomfortable to be sticking microneedles patches to their bodies,” Kitanotatujin Vice President Asako Horikawa said. “However, it was interesting how molten microneedles molded with polymeric hyaluronic acid can solve skin problems and we paid attention to this technology.”Kitanotatsujin cares a lot about customer satisfaction and after conducting a blind test for product quality, the company decided to sell cosmetics with microneedle patches.“We launched the Hyalo Deep Patch product that helps with wrinkles around the eyes in Sep.
