Brain function-controlling potassium ion channel located

By Ko Dong-hwanKorean researchers discovered a biological brain channel dedicated to controlling potassium ion concentration levels inside the organ, sources said Friday.According to the discovery announced on Thursday, the channel acts like a sponge in controlling the level and, moreover, carries chemicals responsible for sending brain signals. The finding was based on a lab rat analysis, where researchers worked with two ion channels inside the rats ― TWIK-1 and TREK-1 ― believing the channels were core “potassium sponge” elements.By monitoring the channels as they were stimulated by artificial DNA ingredients and virus, the researchers confirmed the channels chemically fused together to form a protein and acted as a potassium ion channel.“The recent discovery solved the long-sought question on the presence of potassium ion channel,” said Dr. Hwang Eun-mi from World Class Institute (WCI) of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, head writer of a paper introducing the discovery.“It will possibly suggest new methods to treat abnormal ner
