Dutch prostitute museum opens, unravels 'red light' secrets

Netherland opened a new museum dedicated to introducing behind-the-glass truths about the long-lived prostitution business much unknown to the public.

The venue drew disparity from similar exhibitions known as “sex museum” or “erotic museum” in that it sheds light on real lives of prostitutes as laborers, not the entertainers.

While women performing strip shows are video-fed from a large television screen on one side of the museum, on the other side displays traces of the hookers’ personal daily lives not unlike others.

It also introduces artifacts of costumes and props used by prostitutes from earlier days.

Established by Melcher de Wind, the museum opened Wednesday at the center of the Red Light District, Amsterdam’s major prostitution-dealing sector.
