When people date 'out of their leagues'

A scene from the tvN drama, "Dating a Beauty"By Ko Dong-hwan Men and women react differently when they are set up on a date with a person they consider ``out of their league,’’ according to a joint survey by marriage consultancies Bien Aller and Only You.After quizzing more than 500 single adults, the companies reported that men are usually euphoric about meeting a woman they thought was too attractive for them. Women are excited as well, but seem to approach the date with more strategy to ensure the man is attracted to them as well.In a multiple-answer question, 44 percent of the male respondents picked ``heart thumps with anticipation’’ as their first reaction to being set up with a woman more attractive than he is. Less than 30 percent of the women picked the same answer. The most popular answer among women was ``thinking ways to seduce him,’’ supported by more than 50 percent of the female participants.``I guess this backs the perception that men are normally more passionate and romantic, while women are more realistic,’’ said S

Uruguay president says `US must learn Spanish harder'

By Ko Dong-hwanJose Mujica CordanoUruguayan President Uruguayan President Jose Mujica Cordano has become an American press darling with his interesting mixture of humility and opinionated straight talk, USA Today reported on Monday.Meeting U.S. President Barack Obama at the Oval Office, Cordano showed up without a tie and declared that Americans must try harder to learn Spanish as much as Uruguayans are devoted to learning English. He then proposed the U.S. follow the footsteps of Germany, which promised to send 10,000 scholars to Uruguay to help improve the country’s human resources.Being the world’s first president to legalize cannabis, Cordano emphasized the importance of uprooting the evils of cigarettes.Regarded as one of the individually poorest world leaders, Cordano is famous for his down-to-earth lifestyle; he lives in a rural shack with his wife, donates 90 percent of his income to charity and is frequently seen mingling with pedestrians.

Hyo-ri: wives don't always want sex

By Ko Dong-hwanLee Hyo-riK-pop queen Lee Hyo-ri has rarely been seen on television since moving to Jeju Island and marrying her guitarist boyfriend Lee Sang-soon in September. However, Hyo-ri did appear on the SBS television talk show “Magic Eye’’ Tuesday night, and showed the audience she continues to be her bumbling, lovable self.  The show’s guests, including Hyo-ri and fellow pop star Lee Juck, somehow veered into a serious discussion about people pressured or forced into unwanted sex with their partners.Passionately condemning husbands who force their wives to have sex with them, Hyo-ri said, “That’s right, the wife doesn’t always want to have sex.’’Of course, talk shows don’t provide the most intelligent setups and other guests reacted as Hyo-ri was making a comment on her husband. This made Hyo-ri blush, although she maintained that sex should be consensual in marital relationships.Despite landing Hyo-ri as a guest, Magic Eye managed only a poor viewer rating of 3.8 percent.

So is Window 7 really safer than XP?

By Ko Dong-hwan              After making Herculean efforts to phase out its old Windows XP, Microsoft admits the company’s new operating systems aren’t really much safer.According to Microsoft’s own Security Intelligence Report, which was first obtained and reported by Forbes, computers powered by Windows XP had lower virus infection rates than machines powered by the company’s newer software such as Windows Vista and Windows 7.The virus infection rate for XP computers was measured at 2.42 percent, compared to 3.24 percent of Windows Vista computers and 2.59 percent of Windows 7 computers. The data is somewhat surprising considering that Microsoft had severed all security updates for XP, leaving computers using the system vulnerable to hacking.Computers powered by the latest Windows 8 and 8.1 operating systems had virus infection rates of 1.73 and 0.08 percent, respectively.Forbes argued Windows Vista and Windows 7 might be more vulnerable than XP as there have been certain types of malicious programs that target Windows Vis
