School scores high marks for exceeding performance goals

Sejong University has received an A+ rating, an excellent grade, in the first-year evaluation of the Seoul Regional Innovation System and Education (RISE) Project.

The university said Tuesday that its RISE Project was highly recognized in the evaluation for its strong alignment between the Seoul RISE Project’s strategy and the school’s own implementation strategy.

In addition, the university scored high marks for exceeding most of its performance goals compared with the targets through systematic performance management.

The evaluation was the first official performance assessment conducted for 28 universities participating in the Seoul RISE Project.

It was aimed at comprehensively reviewing the achievement of performance goals and the implementation processes of each university, while improving participants’ project management system and fostering collaborative outcomes between municipal authorities and universities.

The Seoul RISE Project is a Seoul Metropolitan Government-supported program aimed at strengthening cooperation among universities, industries and communities. It seeks to enable participating universities to play a more direct role in regional innovation and development.

“Achieving an A+ rating is a result accomplished through the collective efforts of our university, the local community, and participating organizations,” said Sejong University President Eom Jong-hwa.

He added, “Going forward, we will continue our efforts to grow together with the local community as a university that leads the innovation ecosystem in Seoul.”

The university noted that it focused on four key tasks: revitalizing the industry-academia cooperation ecosystem, nurturing talent for the creative industries, addressing regional challenges and advancing lifelong education in the metropolitan city.

In the area of developing creative industry talent, the university was recognized for effectively promoting talent cultivation in creative industries through the establishment of its AI Content Graduate School.

The university also drew attention for enhancing practical education by incorporating field-based workflows in collaboration with anchor companies. This approach is significant as a model for nurturing industry-ready talent by closely connecting real-world industrial practices with university education.

In revitalizing the industry-academia cooperation ecosystem, the university achieved collaborative outcomes, including the creation of intellectual property rights, based on the operation of Industry Collaboration Center (ICC) and joint research projects involving industry, academia and research institutions.

In addition, the university established key research and industry-academia cooperation infrastructure, including Team Studio Sejong, a virtual production studio, to lay the foundation for more efficient resource utilization and expansion of the collaborative network.

In addressing regional challenges, the university formed a consortium with the Myongji College and carried out a project to address local issues in Eunpyeong District, northwestern Seoul.

In advancing lifelong education in Seoul, the university operated a K-culture-focused lifelong education program for adults through the Sejong University Future Education Center.

The university said that in the second year of the project, it plans to utilize the AI Convergence Research Institute ICC to actively pursue convergence projects by establishing an industrial collaborative system in fields such as creative content, healthcare biotech and smart robot mobility.
