Jeonbuk National University and North Jeolla Province said they will host the 16th International Symposium on Frontiers in Biomedical Polymers (FBPS) from June 7 to 11 next year at the university’s International Conference Hall.

FBPS 2027 is expected to attract between 500 and 700 participants from 20 to 30 countries, organizers said. It will mark the second time Korea has hosted the symposium after its inaugural turn in 2017.

Founded in 1995, the conference has been held every two years in a format modeled after the Gordon Research Conferences, a structure known for fostering intensive, high-level academic exchange.

The symposium spans a wide range of disciplines shaping the future of medicine, including stem cells, regenerative medicine, organoids, drug delivery systems, tissue engineering, biomaterials, 3D printing, gene therapy and bioimaging. Organizers said the breadth of topics reflects the growing convergence of biology, engineering and data science.

The conference will be co-chaired by Khang Gil-son and Lee Dong-won, professors at Jeonbuk National University, along with Kim Chun-ho of the Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences.

Roughly 50 keynote speakers are expected, including globally recognized scholars such as Rui Reis, James J. Yoo, Claudio Migliaresi, Daniel Cohn and David Kaplan.

Also expected to participate are leaders from the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society, including Yasuhiko Tabata and John Fisher, alongside Rui Reis, a former global president of the organization.

Organizers said the conference’s lineup, which includes top journal editors and industry figures, underscores its status as one of the field’s premier forums.

North Jeolla Province officials said the event will serve as a catalyst for the region’s “red biotechnology” sector, a strategic industry focused on medical and pharmaceutical innovation.

“Hosting this symposium will help elevate North Jeolla Province’s global standing in biomedical science,” organizers said.
