A gay TV celebrity says he will run for a district office in Seoul.

Hong Seok-cheon, 44, told BNT Korea, a fashion and beauty online news site, that he would continue his TV career as he pursued his political ambitions.

“I am planning to run for the 2018 local elections ― the head of Yongsan-Gu district, specifically,” he said.

Hong runs several restaurants, including a brunch cafe called My Chelsea, and a Thai restaurant, My Thai, in Itaewon, Yongsan-Gu.

“I want to continue pursuing my passions and expanding my ideas, especially my dreams of helping the street culture develop here,” he said.

He also discussed his strategic approach to his successful restaurants, and his broadcast plans.

Hong is a regular guest on shows “Please Take Care of My Refrigerator” and “Witch Hunt.”

He came out in 2000, one of the first celebrities to reveal his homosexuality.
