Two people in a car took a frightening plunge in a parking garage in western Seoul, Tuesday night, when a segment of the floor collapsed.
The driver, a 27-year-old man surnamed Kim, and his mother drove into the indoor parking lot in the Mapo District after getting the green light to enter, according to the Mapo fire department.
Within an instant, the segment of floor fell two meters underground, causing the car to nosedive into the hole.
Neither Kim nor his mother was hurt.
“Luckily, my mom and I both had our seatbelts on, so neither of us got hurt, not even when the front glass shattered into pieces,” Kim said.
Fire fighters on the scene said that the parking lot’s signal light and the weak platforms in the parking lot were the main cause of the accident.
An investigation was underway to determine the cause of the incident.
