With temperatures continuing to drop and snow already on the ground in Seoul, two jackets have emerged as the most popular items to help keep us toasty this winter.
Despite the country’s unfavorable economic conditions, consumers are happily opening up their wallets for the “Velocite” jacket by Swedish fashion house Acne Studios; and a raccoon fur field jacket by Italian clothier Mr & Mrs Furs.
Acne Studios, the fashion arm of the creative collective ACNE, has succeeded in bringing the mustang jacket back to the local fashion scene with the Velocite. Despite its high price _ around 3 to 4 million won ($2,700 to $3,600) _ the jacket has become one of the hottest retro items in the country.
The Velocite has spawned similar designs by such brands as Jack & Jill and Plastic Island at more affordable prices, around 200,000 won. Kai-aakmann’s mustang jacket sold out thanks to actor Kim woo-bin, who appeared wearing the item frequently in the television drama series “The Inheritors.”
Acne Studios, founded by Jonny Johansson, is known for its ability to blend ready-to-wear clothing with youth culture and contemporary art.
The jacket by Mr & Mrs Furs _ known as the “Jun Ji-hyun jacket” because the popular actress has been seen wearing it _ is mostly coveted by those who enjoy outdoor activities.
According to a department store manager, the raccoon-fur jacket has been a steady seller among the younger generation. But because of its rather exorbitant price _ about 5 million won _ some opt for cheaper options.
Local fashion brand Shesmiss has offered a field jacket at much lower price, around 250,000 won. VOV followed suit by showing a padded fur field jacket in collaboration with style icon Taylor Tomasi Hill, the style and accessories editor for Marie Claire magazine’s U.S. edition.
