Korea’s global instant messaging app Naver Band is launching a new gaming platform in a bid to halt its rival Kakao, the nation’s most popular communication/video game app, Digital Times said Monday.
Being considered the nation’s only app developer standing toe-to-toe against Kakao, Naver Band informed associated firms through its subsidiary company Camp Mobile the game service will be launched on April 21.
Band will offer ten new games on the day of launching, and will roll out additional ten every two weeks. The report said developers have already loaded Band with about 40 games that are to be launched by the end of this year’s first half.
Unlike KakaoTalk games which depended heavily on women in their 20s and 30s, Naver Band games have distinctively targeted men in their 40s.
The new gaming platform also introduced a new profits-distributing business structure designed to encourage contents developers: Regardless of whether users download the games from Naver App Store, Google Play or Google App Stores, the developers are given more than 52 percent of profits generated from sales of their games.
