2 arrested for killing disabled neighbor

A 38-year-old man was taken into custody for killing his disabled neighbor after having a brawl over the victim’s disability pension, the police said Wednesday.

According to the police at the Gangseo office western Seoul, the attacker, a Kim, and his friend quarreled, demanding the victim, a Yang, to pay for liquor they drank on Jan. 20 since they claimed that they took care of Yang and bought him drinks before. As Yang refused to pay, they beat up the disabled man. Yang and the two were allegedly on friendly terms.

They attacked Yang again on the following day while having an argument about cell phone bills.

After finding the victim dead on the next day, Kim called 119 and reported to the police that Yang and them fell asleep together in Yang’s apartment but Yang never woke up.

As the autopsy result of Yang’s body suggested that he was killed by brain damage, police arrested the two under the charge of manslaughter.

During the police investigation, the two allegedly admitted they attacked the victim, but shifted the responsibility of the death to each other.

Yang used to give them 300,000 won ($260) from his disability pension and supplementary living subsidy as the two provided meals and drinks for Yang. However, they demanded more from Yang.
