Roaming the streets for survival
There are kids who roam the streets, not as delinquents but as a matter of survival. According to a survey, 66 out of 100 kids who leave their homes do so because of harsh home conditions.
The 20-year-old Kang Min-seo has been living at a youth shelter in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, for four months. She could no longer take the physical abuse from her father, which began when she was in middle school.
Kang’s parents divorced and she had to live with her father and he began to beat her up for no other reason than that she looked like her mother. Her grandparents were around but were of little help.
She first left home at third grade in middle school and was determined not to return. She met up with another runaway and worked odd jobs but was resigned to sleeping in parking lots and playgrounds.
The problem with this way of living is that young girls get exposed to crimes. And they are constantly forced to illegal ways of making a living.
