A weak earthquake was detected on the northern side of the inter-Korean border in Gangwon Province, Tuesday afternoon, according to the state weather agency.
The 2.1-magnitude tremor occurred at 3:05 p.m. with the epicenter 33 kilometers north from the inter-Korean border in Yanggu, Gangwon Province, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said. The quake was too weak to cause damage. The agency called the tremor “natural,” denying allegations that it was caused by an underground test of a powerful explosive. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from North Korea.
The KMA said a 3.0-magnitude quake struck the region, Aug. 20.
