Mirae Asset Global Investments has surpassed 400 trillion won ($289 billion) in total assets under management, reaching a significant milestone after 22 years of global expansion, the company said Wednesday.

Positioning itself as a leading global asset manager, the firm now plans to drive future financial innovation through global exchange-traded funds (ETFs), pension solutions and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven strategies.

Since it became the first Korean asset manager to enter overseas markets with the launch of its Hong Kong branch in 2003, the asset management arm of Mirae Asset Financial Group now operates across 16 regions, including the United States, Vietnam, Brazil, UK, India and Japan.

Of its total assets under management, approximately 181 trillion won — or 45 percent — is managed outside Korea.

Park Hyeon-joo, chairman and global strategy officer of Mirae Asset Financial Group, has expanded the asset manager’s global footprint by leading key mergers and acquisitions, including those with Global X in the U.S., Horizons ETFs in Canada and Stockspot in Australia.

From 250 trillion won at the end of 2022, assets under management have grown steadily, driven by strategic initiatives that have strengthened the firm’s global competitiveness.

Mirae Asset's capabilities in the global ETF market have become especially prominent. Over the past decade, while global ETF managers recorded an average annual growth rate of 17.8 percent, the Korean firm achieved a growth rate of 34.4 percent, nearly double the industry average.

Global X, for its part, has emerged as a leading ETF provider in the United States — the world’s largest ETF market — by delivering distinctive thematic and income-generating products. Since being acquired by Mirae Asset in 2018, Global X has seen its assets under management grow nearly tenfold, from 8 trillion won to approximately 80 trillion won.

In Europe, the second-largest ETF market globally, Global X EU has also demonstrated remarkable momentum, achieving an average annual growth rate of 182 percent over the past five years.

In the domestic market, Mirae Asset has shown steady performance across various sectors, including ETFs, pension products and real estate funds.

TIGER ETFs, the firm’s flagship ETF brand, have become the top choice among retail investors. According to data from the Korea Exchange, retail investors made net purchases totaling 7.86 trillion won in TIGER ETFs in 2024, accounting for 40 percent of all retail ETF net purchases, the highest share among domestic asset managers.

The firm has also been expanding its presence in the pension market by launching M-ROBO, the first domestic robo-advisor dedicated to retirement pensions. This AI-powered platform offers personalized pension management based on the company's expertise.

The firm stated that it will continue to focus on AI-driven innovative product development to lead the future financial market. To achieve this, it plans to strengthen synergies among its subsidiaries, including the U.S.-based AI firm Wealthspot and the Australian robo-advisor Stockspot.

"Leveraging Mirae Asset’s strong global network, we have the capability to manage global asset allocation and utilize diverse investment tools," said Kim Young-hwan, head of innovation and global business at Mirae Asset Global Investments. "We remain committed to launching innovative products that drive market advancement and help investors achieve a secure retirement."
