At the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre in Rio de Janeiro, Monday, a man in a Chinese team uniform moved slowly to the poolside just after the medal ceremony for the women’s three-meter springboard dive.
The man stopped in front of Chinese silver medalist He Zi, 26, and gently hugged her.
Then he went down on one knee and held up a small red box with a ring.
He, who was listening to the man’s singing, nodded a few times with tears in her eyes.
With a big smile, the man slipped the ring on He’s finger, and spectators cheered.
The man who proposed was Chinese diving bronze medalist Qin Kai, 30.
The two have been dating for six years.
“When Qin hugged me, I realized that I could be with him for the rest of my life,” said He.

On Aug. 8, female Olympic staff member Marjorie Enya, 28, proposed to her girlfriend ― Brazilian rugby player Isadora Cerullo, 25 ― after the winning ceremony of the women’s rugby sevens at the Deodoro Stadium.
