A woman in her 50s is being investigated by police over a golf shot that was responsible for the death of another woman, according to police on Friday.
The victim, in her 60s, died the previous day after being struck in the head by a golf ball at a golf course in Moga-myeon, Icheon, Gyeonggi Province.
The incident occurred when the two women, along with two others, were playing golf there. Apparently unaware that the younger woman was preparing for another shot, the victim suddenly went in front of her, a witness reportedly said, adding that she probably thought that the younger woman was simply doing a practice swing without a ball.
The victim was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.
No CCTVs were found to be installed near the spot where the incident occurred.
An autopsy will be conducted on the body to find the exact cause of death.
After collecting more facts from witnesses and golf course staff, police will decide whether to press criminal charges against the woman who struck the golf ball.
This was the latest in a string of unsettling golfing incidents over the past month.
On June 13, a man in his 60s was hospitalized with an eye injury after being struck by a golf ball at a golf course in Gapyeong, a northeastern county in the same province. On May 31, two people were injured as a result of a golf cart accident in Icheon.
