The National Office of Investigation / NewsisChung Sun-sin /YonhapA prosecutor-turned-lawyer appointed to head the National Office of Investigation offered to resign Saturday, just a day ahead of assuming his post, amid a school bullying controversy involving his son.Chung Sun-sin, appointed as the new chief the previous day, found himself in hot water after it was belatedly revealed that his son had verbally abused one of his peers for eight months in high school and was made to transfer to another school."Many have been concerned due to my son's problem, and I came to the conclusion that I cannot take on such a grave responsibility as the chief of the National Office of Investigation with this flaw," he said in a press release, expressing his willingness to "withdraw" from the post.Chung had worked for the prosecution for about 20 years and served as the head of the Institute of Justice's branch in Yongin, 40 kilometers south of Seoul. Lee Jae-myung should be arrested, according to a Gallup Korea poll released Friday. Lee faces charges of corruption related to a land development scandal and a separate bribery allegation involving a football club during his tenure as the mayor of Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, from 2010 to 2018.In the poll conducted from Tuesday to Thursday, 49 percent of the 1,000 adults surveyed said Lee should be arrested, while 41 percent thought otherwise. The poll was carried out after prosecutors sought a warrant to arrest Lee on Feb. 16.
