Lee Jae-myung, leader of the main opposition Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), said Thursday that his party will actively take the lead in solving the problems relating to the people's livelihood following its landslide victory in the general elections.

"It's not a victory for the Democratic Party of Korea but a great victory for our people," Lee said in a disbanding ceremony for the party's election committee, expressing gratitude for the people's support for the party in exceeding its majority goal in the National Assembly.

"The Democratic Party of Korea will do its best to respect the precious meaning contained in each vote cast by the people. We'll do our best to alleviate the suffering of the people and resolve the national crisis," Lee said.

He also called on both ruling and opposition parties to work together to resolve the crises facing the livelihoods of the people.

The DPK leader then asked all party members elected in Wednesday's election to continue to listen to the voice of the people with a low and humble attitude. (Yonhap)
