U.S. President Donald Trump returned South Korea’s wide welcome by tweeting throughout his two-day state visit in Korea, which began Tuesday.
His first tweet was at 4:39 p.m., Tuesday, at his first official location, Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, south of Seoul.
He wrote, “It was my great honor to have lunch with our INCREDIBLE U.S. and ROK troops at Camp Humphreys, in South Korea,” and with it posted a 50-second video in which he delivered a speech addressing the soldiers and President Moon Jae-in who made a surprise visit to the military base.
His second tweet followed in less than three hours.
“Thank you to President Moon of South Korea for the beautiful welcoming ceremony. It will always be remembered,” he wrote, with a video of the ceremony which took place in front of Cheong Wa Dae, the presidential office.
Trump entered the main gate in a Cadillac, escorted by Korean guards in traditional attire. As he exited the car, he reportedly said “very very nice.”
Trump then walked alongside Moon, both shaking hands with government officials from the U.S. and Korea.
At Cheong Wa Dae, he expressed his gratitude toward Moon with a handwritten memo, “This is such a great honor ― Thank you!”
