TV personality booked for assaulting pro-golfer wife

TV personality Marco has been booked for assaulting his wife, the pro golfer Ahn Shi-hyun. Police officers responded to a call from Ahn and caught Marco in the act at his home at 8:20 a.m. on Sunday, according to Seongdong police in Seoul on Monday.Marco allegedly slapped his wife in the face several times during a quarrel over child raising. Under questioning at the police station, Marco claimed he simply tapped his wife's face and had no intention of assaulting her. He was let go after about five hours of questioning. When the news broke, Ahn belatedly called police telling them she did not want to press charges. She later told an interviewer, "I called police because I lost my temper. But it wasn't a serious situation." A third-generation ethnic Korean from Argentina, Marco debuted in a TV soap in 2007. He met Ahn through an acquaintance in 2009, and they got married in 2011. They had a daughter in May last year.

Shocking new finding about food addiction

What makes people fat? All sorts of things have been blamed, from too much eating and too little exercise to slow metabolisms and fast food ― even air conditioning. But a shocking new study suggests that some cases of obesity grow out of sexual or physical abuse during childhood. The study, conducted by scientists at Harvard Medical School, showed that women with a personal history of abuse are much more likely than other women to develop a food addiction. For the study, a team led by Dr. Susan M. Mason, a postdoctoral fellow at the Connors Center for Women's Health and Gender Biology, studied the link between childhood abuse and adult food addiction in 57,321 women enrolled in the Nurses' Health Study II.Dr. Mason's team found that food addiction was almost twice as common among women who indicated that they had experienced sexual or physical abuse before age 18 than among women with no history of childhood abuse, according to a written statement released in conjunction with the research. Women who had experienced both sexual and physical abuse were even more likely to have food addic

Easter Island's mystical statues may have been 'walked' into place

The mystical Stone Heads of Easter Island may have been walked into position, according to a team of scientists. There are nearly 1,000 statues on the remote Polynesian island and their origin and the people who built them remains shrouded in mystery. But one thing has always led to debate: how exactly did the tribe move the moai - some of which weigh more than 80 tones - to their final destinations without the benefit of modern technology?A team led by Archaeologists Carl Lipo of the California State University Long Beach and Terry Hunt of the University of Hawaii believed that the statues' bases were carved so they could lean forward to make them easier to transport. The researchers illustrated the theory by creating a five-ton replica of one of the statues and moving it into an upright position on a dirt path in Hawaii. With just a few ropes, a team of 18 people could rock the statue back and forth, each time inching the statue on just a little bit more. The mode of transport would have taken about two weeks. The bases would then have been flattened to stand the statues upright once th

Does painful tongue patch diet leads to weight loss?

The tongue patch is a new cosmetic surgery technique that can allegedly help people lose up to 30 pounds in a month via a postage-stamp-size patch on the tongue, reported Huffington Post. The rough patch is designed to make eating solid food so painful that patients only consume liquids, MSNNow.com reported. The material used in the patch is marlex, an abrasive material usually used to repair hernias, and it is secured to the top of the tongue by six stitches.Side effects include difficulties in speaking and a tendency to wake suddenly from sleep, Time reported. The tongue patch is the brainchild of Dr. Nikolas Chugay, a Beverly Hills-based cosmetic surgeon, who said all patients are given an easy-to-follow liquid diet that fulfills all nutritional needs while minimizing caloric intake. Chugay charges about $2,000 for this procedure, which has yet to be approved by the FDA.There are many critics to the tongue patch, and they include California cosmetic surgeons Dr. Richard Chaffoo."With any kind of thing you put in there and suture into the tongue, you run the risk of getting an

US not linking inter-Korean talks with its ties with Pyongyang

The U.S. government views the resumption of inter-Korean talks as distinct from the prospects for dialogue between Washington and Pyongyang, an official said Monday. The statement was apparently intended to caution the international community against excessive expectations that the U.S. may soon respond to North Korea's peace overtures following months of warlike threats."Well, that's a slightly separate issue," State Department spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki said at a press briefing. In Korea, the South and the North agreed to hold a ministerial level dialogue in Seoul later this week, their first high-profile talks in six years. They are expected to discuss the future of a joint industrial park in Kaesong and tours to Mount Kumgang, both of which are suspended.Psaki reiterated her department welcomes such inter-Korean talks."We support and have always supported improved inter-Korean relations and will continue our close coordination with our allies and partners in the region and, of course, monitor this closely," she said. She also said Washington remains open to "improved relations" with
