Burglars leave strange signs on doors

Burglars are marking door locks with strange symbols in Daegu,  Yonhap News reports.Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency said Thursday that a total of about 20 million won had been stolen from empty apartments in four robberies.The burglars left a small “S” or “$” sign on the doors, below the door locks or at the top.Police believe the burglars first marked the empty properties with the “S” sign, and then signed off with a  “$” dollar sign.“The burglars are well-organized planned ― they didn’t leave a single trace, not even their fingerprints,” a police spokesman said. “Based on what neighbors told us, we assume a group of burglars, at least more than two.”

Councilman apologizes for egg bombs

Ahn Sang-soo reveals a picture of a bruise left by an egg thrown by a councilman on Thursday.Changwon councilman Kim Seong-il, who threw eggs at city mayor Ahn Sang-soo last Tuesday, has apologized at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.According to Yonhap News Agency, he said, “I personally apologize for throwing eggs at Mayor Ahn.”The apology was unexpected because Kim had said he would not apologize. However, Yonhap reported that the councilman changed his mind when police began investigating and after a meeting of the Saenuri Party’s local ethics committee.Kim threw the eggs during a city council meeting on September 16.Ahn said it took him two weeks to recover from an injury result in from the incident. He said his right forearm was still bruised, and showed a picture of where an egg hit him.He said all city government officials, including himself, would not attend council meetings unless measures were taken to prevent such attacks.The Chagnwon City Government has also asked Kim to resign.

Samsung sitcom aims to 'promote dynamic culture'

It features two young, attractive characters ㅡ one played by a K-pop star ㅡ trying to figure out their lives. It weaves love and work into its plot. However, what makes Best Future different is that Samsung made the show, it takes place in a Samsung office and aims to promote Samsung as a cool, vibrant company.The industrial giant announced this week that the show will be released on YouTube and other social media sites in October. It follows the Samsung web drama “Infinite Power,” released last year.According to a statement, the show aims to promote Samsung’s image as a “young and dynamic” company and a desirable place to work.The plot of the six-episode series focuses on an aspiring singer named Chaego (Korean for “best”), and his female housemate, Mirae, a newbie at Samsung.  The company says the show will portray “work, love and human relations that those in 2030 will identify with.”Scenes take place at Sa

Festival to raise money for Sewol families

 A festival to celebrate General Yi Sun-shin will be held next month, in the coastal region where the Sewol ferry sank and where the record-breaking movie “Roaring Currents” was filmed.The “General Lee Victory Festival” will take place on Jindo Island from October 11 to 12, with much of the money going to the families of people who died in the Sewol disaster."After the Sewol disaster, Jindo’s economy declined _ we're basically trying to help everyone get the region back on track," said festival organizer Michael Suh.The festival will start with a traditional song, “Arirang,” inviting participants to wear uniforms and take part in dances.It will then feature international performers, including two foreign bands, Colin Phil's and The Primary, and various K-pop artists.Festivities including hip-hop DJs are scheduled to continue throughout the night. Manufacturers of chips and other snack products are under fire for filling their packages with more nitrogen gas and less food."I bought nitrogen gas, and they gave me free snacks with it," says a satire video that reflects consumers’ complaints.In the video, three men have taped about 50 bags of chips together to form a “boat,” in which they are floating on around a fountain near Cheonan Terminal in South Chungcheong Province.This 55-second video emphasizes the massive amount of nitrogen gas that is included in snack bags.All snacks shown in the video are domestic products, according to related information.The information says the video is a preview of a “performance”' on the Han River near Jamsil at 3 p.m. on September 28The event aims to prove how much nitrogen is in the bags by floating a “bag boat” boat twice the size of the one in the video, across the river.The video has gone viral, with the promoters saying, "If you have a complaint of your own, bring one bag of chips and we will cross the river to deliver your complaint.""We hope thi

Free plastic surgery for farmers

Senior citizens in farming areas are now eligible to receive free cosmetic surgery, courtesy of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF).The cultural arm of NAFC, better known as Nonghyup, signed a contract with Theline Plastic Surgery Clinic to help rural sector workers and their families who have physical disabilities, reports said.However, the free surgery will include breast implants and cosmetic procedures for the eyes, nose and facial structures.Theline clinic will treat five patients free each month.The contract follows a year of provisional agreements under which surgeons donated their services to improve living standards in rural areas.Nonghyup Foundation secretary general Lee Jae-shik said, "We will continue to expand various projects for a better standard of living and an improved welfare system for people in agriculture regions, where medical services are weaker."
