Changwon councilman Kim Seong-il, who threw eggs at city mayor Ahn Sang-soo last Tuesday, has apologized at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

According to Yonhap News Agency, he said, “I personally apologize for throwing eggs at Mayor Ahn.”

The apology was unexpected because Kim had said he would not apologize. However, Yonhap reported that the councilman changed his mind when police began investigating and after a meeting of the Saenuri Party’s local ethics committee.

Kim threw the eggs during a city council meeting on September 16.

Ahn said it took him two weeks to recover from an injury result in from the incident. He said his right forearm was still bruised, and showed a picture of where an egg hit him.

He said all city government officials, including himself, would not attend council meetings unless measures were taken to prevent such attacks.

The Chagnwon City Government has also asked Kim to resign.
