Today is the 100th anniversary of the assassination of Hirobumi Ito, the first resident-general of Korea, by Patriot Ahn Jung-geun. Here, The Korea Times is presenting the Gold and Silver Prize-winning works, in their entirety, of the contest jointly organized by the Northeast Asia History Foundation. The texts of the Bronze Prize winners are posted on The Korea Times’ Web site. The awarding ceremony will be held at the Seoul Plaza Hotel on Nov. 3.

The scream of agony came from Hirobumi Ito, the first resident-general of Korea, hit by three well-aimed gunshots from a young
