Stalker assaulted woman after sending 5,000 texts, police say
By Lee Han-sooPolice booked a man on Sunday for allegedly stalking a bar employee for four years.The unidentified man, 27, is accused of sending the woman more than 5,000 threatening text messages and assaulting her twice, according to Gunsan Police Station.According to police, the two met at a bar where she worked in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, in 2013. The man visited her frequently and they formed a relationship.But the man became obsessed and began to stalk the woman in 2015.He sent more than 5,000 threatening texts, often when she was with other customers.The woman became frightened and blocked his calls.The situation escalated when the woman started her own bar.On Feb. 1, the man went to the bar, took her cell phone and bashed her several times in the face.On May 28, he returned and assaulted the woman again, after which police arrested him.“The victim did not make a proper statement initially for fear the man would retaliate,” a police official said.“But further investigation revealed he was stalking her.”
