Dongbu Group chief accused of sexual harassment

By Bahk Eun-ji, Park Si-sooDongbu Group chief Kim Jun-ki Dongbu Group chief Kim Jun-ki has been accused of sexually harassing his former female secretary, police said Wednesday.Kim, 73, is suspected of having “inappropriate” physical contact with the former secretary in her early 30s over the six months from February.The woman filed a formal complaint with Suseo Police Station in Seoul on Tuesday, demanding an investigation. She reportedly submitted video footage showing Kim touching her thighs and waist. Details of the footage, including when and how it was captured, are unknown.She quit the company in July after working as the chairman’s secretary for three years. Kim has been staying in the United States since July, receiving medical treatment for liver and kidney diseases.The company denies the allegations. Comedian vows to sue former President Lee for blacklisting her

By Kim Se-jeong Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon filed a complaint with the prosecution against former President Lee Myung-bak, accusing him of defamation, abuse of power and obstruction of justice.Park said the National Intelligence Service (NIS) systematically conducted illegal surveillance on him and spread groundless rumors about him and his family during the 2008-2013 Lee Myung-bak administration.The prosecution has already been looking into the spy agency over allegations it worked to serve the former president’s interest, breaching the NIS Law that prohibits intervention in domestic politics.“I believe this should be done for the future of Korea. Korean Air chief questioned over alleged embezzlement

By You Soo-sunThe head of Korea’s major airline company was questioned by police Tuesday, over allegations that he used company money to renovate his private residence.Korean Air and Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Yang-ho, is accused of using 3 billion won ($2.65 million) of company funds for the remodeling of his house in Pyeongchang-dong, central Seoul, between May 2013 and August 2014.The money was taken from funds allocated for the construction of the airline’s hotel around the same time at Incheon International Airport.Cho has denied the allegations, saying he had no knowledge of the misappropriation. Police will look into whether Cho was aware of fund misuse and if he was directly involved. They are also looking into whether Cho’s wife, Lee Myung-hee, was involved.Cho and Lee were questioned by prosecutors twice in August but the investigation was suspended when Cho sought receiving medical treatment in the United States. Twelve teens accused of scamming 206 adults

By Chyung Eun-juTwelve high school students have been caught for allegedly scamming more than 200 people in partnership with a voice phishing organization, according to police on Tuesday. Daegu Police Station arrested a high school ring leader, surnamed Kim, 18, and two others allegedly involved. Nine other teens are also accused.In this joint financial swindling scheme with grown-ups, the teens role was to withdraw cash.Kim allegedly told one victim, in his 40s, in March,“I change your existing loans to a low-interest loan,” according to police. By Chyung Eun-ju, Park Si-sooA court has ruled in favor of a school employee sacked after taking sick leave via a simple text message to the manager.Seoul Administrative Court nullified the employee’s removal on Monday, overturning the National Labor Relations Commission’s decision that the employee had taken absence without leave.The court said that although the text message was not an official way of seeking sick leave, the employee sought the approval in advance and the manager accepted it in a return message.The dispute dates back to Oct. 12, 2015. Around 7 a.m., the employee, who was in a probation period, sent a message to the manager: “I cannot go to work because I have a cold.” The manager replied at around 8 a.m.: “Okay.”But the following day, the employee was referred to the school’s disciplinary committee and fired. Man faces fine for anti-graft law violation
