Seoul taxi passengers will be able to recharge their smartphones in 3000 cabs from July 4.
To use the service, passengers need to download the “CharS Mobile Charge Station” app. After hooking their smartphones to a charger box in the taxi, users can activate the app, scan a QR code on the charger and start recharging. The app requires users to watch a short advertisement before starting a recharge, which is limited to 15 minutes.
The Seoul Taxi Association will trial the service for two months. Based on passenger feedback, the group will decide whether to expand it to all Seoul taxis.
The group expects the service to improve the taxi service’s quality and raise customer satisfaction.
“People often see their smartphone batteries running low as they enjoy playing mobile games and searching online,” the group’s chairman said. “The service will support the passengers in using our taxis.”
