Actor Cho Yeon-woo Will Tie Knot With Collegian

Popular actor Cho Yeon-woo, 38, is set to tie the knot on Dec. 15 with a college student 16 years his junior, his agency said Wednesday. His wife-to-be, 22, identified only as Cha, is a senior dance major at the Korea National University of Arts. They have been dating for about two years since meeting in 2007 through a blind date arranged by their colleagues. Cho first announced the wedding plan at a gathering of his colleagues to celebrate the final taping of an MBC TV drama. ``I have been very cautious about the marriage because of the wide age gap. But now I really thank my bride for trusting and following me,'' he told a local daily. ``We originally planned to hold a wedding ceremony in May, but brought it forward after getting full support from our parents.'' After making his debut in the TV drama ``All In'' in 2002, the model-turned-actor has broadened his fan base with appearances on hit dramas such as ``Yi San.'' chojh@koreatimes.co.kr

Rev. Foster Speaks on Acceptance of God

By Kim Jae-won Staff Reporter A million-selling Christian author and spiritual leader preached on the acceptance of God at a seminar in Seoul, Tuesday, asking participants to learn from children about how to pray. At Yangjae Onnuri Church in the south of the city, Richard J. Foster, from near Denver, Colo., told the gathering, "A child knows how to pray for little things. We need to learn from them." About 3,000 participants were emotionally stirred by the spiritual maestro's speech ― sometimes laughing, sometimes with tears welling in their eyes. He stressed the importance of forgiveness and love, introducing one story of Church Father Abba Abraham and his niece St. Mary the Harlot. It is a story about a famous monk who gave up his fame and monastic regulation to save his niece who became a prostitute after being raped in her early days. "Abba Abraham forbade his monastic life to save his niece from prostitution. She found God's love and acceptance through her uncle," said Foster, a Quaker pastor. At the end of the meeting, Foster asked participants to pray f

Huh Kyung-young Will Sue SBS TV for Defamation

By Cho Jae-hyon Staff Reporter Huh Kyung-young, a former presidential candidate famous for his eccentric behavior, will file a libel suit against SBS TV for broadcasting allegedly faulty facts about him, his agency said in a statement. ``What has been reported by SBS on Huh is all false. We are going to take civil and criminal suits for defamation,'' it said. His agency said the broadcaster knows the truth about Huh and falsely reported about him, claiming there must be a ``conspiracy'' behind the program. In its Oct. 17 program, SBS reported that many of Hur's claims are not true. For instance, it quoted a number of people as saying that he got married several times and has a five-year-old son, even though he has claimed that he has never wed. Huh recently released a single album ``Call Me,'' which has drawn popularity among Internet users. Huh was released from prison in July after an 18-month jail term for breaking the Election Law. His eccentricities include spreading rumors during the presidential election, such as claiming that after he became president, Rep

Big Bang Won’t Need Agency Approval for Overseas Travel

By Cho Jae-hyon Staff Reporter Members of boy band Big Bang will be able to travel overseas without having to receive prior approval from their agency YG Entertainment, according to new regulations enforced by the Fair Trade Commission, Tuesday. They will also be entitled to claim their share of royalties from the sales of their albums even after their contract with YG has expired, the trust buster said. These changes are the result of revised fair trade rules on contracts between entertainers and their agency companies. Agency firms voluntarily rewrote contracts in the wake of guidelines set by the FTC. It said YG Entertainment removed clauses mandating all profits from album sales belong to the agency following the expiration of contracts. As a result, Big Bang, 2NE1 and other entertainers represented by YG will be exempted from the requirements to pay profits to YG even after the expiration of their contracts. At the same time, the clause requiring Big Bang members to get prior approval for overseas travel has been deleted, allowing them to go abroad only by
