But one such child, identifying himself with the alias Kim Chul-soo, 16, has made a dent in this stereotype.He is the first North Korean defector to be accepted into a science high school in South Korea. She was a presidential spokeswoman for foreign press affairs in 2003 under then president Roh Moo-hyun. Dokdo, to which Japan makes a sovereignty claim, is under the province’s control.Kim generated nearly 25 million won last year by selling souvenirs at the cafe, according to the office. It was his second payment of VAT since the cafe opened in May 2013, the office said.He paid 193,000 won in VAT with his first payment in January of last year.“The number of visitors to my cafe was lower than expected. Pianist believes in talent of disabled kids

She also says she was able to strengthen her belief in their abilities through last year’s Music Concert for Children with Disabilities where she served as the music director.“I saw hope that they may be able to perform in an orchestra with their peers without receiving any help,” Gu said in a recent telephone interview with The Korea Times. “They concentrate on their work extremely well and also don’t easily get bored by playing instruments over and over.”The annual concert started in 2010. Ahn Jung-hwan's white Carnival minivan was crashed from behind by a Lexus sedan driven by an alcohol-intoxicated man. / YonhapBy Ko Dong-hwanAhn Jung-hwanFormer national soccer player and sportscaster Ahn Jung-hwan sustained minor injuries in a car accident in southern Seoul Tuesday night when a car rammed into his vehicle at a traffic light.Ahn, 38, was on his way home from calling Korea’s Asian Cup match against Kuwait earlier in the day. The match took place in Australia, but Ahn called the game from a studio in Yeouido, Seoul.  The minivan Ahn rode was idling at a light in Dongjak-gu when a Lexus sedan rammed it from behind.Police said the driver of the Lexus, identified as a 59-year-old Kim, was intoxicated with a blood-alcohol level of 0.1 percent, which is enough for one’s driver license to be revoked.Ahn was taken to a hospital for minor injuries to his face and neck. Court approves celebrity news anchor's divorce

Kim Joo-ha / YonhapBy Ko Dong-hwan A court on Tuesday ruled in favor of celebrity news anchor Kim Joo-ha, who filed for divorce against her husband of 10 years.The Seoul Family Court approved her divorce after her husband, Kang Pil-gu, 45, was handed a suspended sentence in October for assaulting the MBC anchor, 42, during an argument.The court gave custody of their two children to Kim, and ordered Kang to pay alimony.The divorce becomes effective if neither Kim nor Kang appeals the decision in the next two weeks.Kim married Kang, who worked for a foreign bank, in 2004.Kim testified in the domestic violence case that Kang began hitting her frequently in 2008.Seoul Western District Court sentenced Kang to eight months’ jail, suspended for two years, for assaulting Kim.Kim then discovered Kang was having an affair.The court in 2013 ordered Kang to pay Kim 327 million won ($300,000), to which both parties agreed, as compensation for Kang’s infidelity.Kim built her journalistic career as a television news reporter covering business, global affairs and national news. Ha Chang-wooBy Lee Kyung-min The new head of the Korean Bar Association (KBA) has pledged to root out corruption between judges and lawyers who have served as judges or prosecutors in the past.Ha Chang-woo was elected as the 48th president of the KBA, Monday, and now represents 15,545 lawyers nationwide. He will take the helm of the association starting Feb. 23 for a two-year term.He is the second head to be elected through an all-members direct vote since the association adopted the system in 2012.Until then, an internal committee had named the head of the association.
