Allianz Life Insurance Chief Operating Officer Joos LouwerierBy Kim Jae-won Allianz Life Insurance Chief Operating Officer (COO) Joos Louwerier believes that good communication with customers is the key to success in the insurance business. The Dutchman said the company’s new healthcare app AllRight will help the insurer connect to policyholders. AllRight checks up customers’ blood pressure, heartbeat, and exercise regularly through wearable devices, and sends the data to both the policyholders and the insurance company. Allianz plans to cut premiums for customers based on the data. “The common interest of a life and health insurance company and its customers is health. This is the case because the customer wants to be healthy, and obviously the insurer wants the customer to be healthy as well. We hope that we can connect more to customers with the health app,” said Louwerier in a luncheon meeting with The Korea Times earlier this month.He said that with AllRight the company wants to support its customers manage, improve and protect their healthy lifestyles. Popular radio DJ dies of heart attack

The late Kim Kwang-hanBy Kim Jae-heun Kim Kwang-han, a popular radio disc jockey and TV show host whose career flourished in the 1980s and 1990s, died of a heart attack aged 69 on ThursdayKim was moved to hospital after he collapsed on Monday. He seemed to show signs of recovery but his condition suddenly declined and he died after three days in intensive care.This year marked Kim’s 50th anniversary since his debut as a radio DJ at the age of 19. He was the youngest DJ to debut in Korea.Kim led pop music’s golden age in Korea, along with Kim Kee-duck, another top DJ whose radio show also thrived during that time.He hosted KBS 2FM’s “Kim Kwang-han’s Pop Dial” from 1982 to 1994 and “Kim Kwang-han’s Memory of Golden Pops” in 1999. From 1987 to 1991, the popular DJ also hosted “Show Video Jockey” on KBS 2TV.Kim was also the official DJ for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.

The Korea Times names new editors in reshuffle

The Korea Times appointed Politics Desk Editor Shim Jae-yun to the business and finance desk in a reshuffle, Tuesday.The English daily newspaper named City Editor Na Jeong-ju to head the politics desk, while editorial writer Kim Ji-soo was tapped as digital news editor.Reporter Kim Rahn was promoted to deputy city editor and will be in charge of the city desk.The reshuffle came after Business and Finance Desk Editor Cho Jae-hyon was named managing editor on July 1.Shim joined The Korea Times in 1990, and has served as culture and sports desk editor, online news editor and editorial writer.Politics Desk Editor Na started his journalist career with the Times in 2001. Catholic priest releases hip hop album

Actress dies of cerebral infarction

The late Han Kyung-sunBy Park Si-soo Veteran actress Han Kyung-sun died of a cerebral infarction on Saturday night, her agency said Monday. She was 52. “She passed away at midnight July 4,” her agency said in a statement.According to the agency, Han visited St. Mary’s Hospital in southern Seoul on June 19 on her way back home from a TV drama shooting site due to acute head pain.Doctors found bleeding in her head and she was hospitalized for treatment. She fell into coma on July 1 and died three days later.The cause of death was cerebral infarction, according to the hospital.Making her debut in 1983, she played main or supporting roles in numerous TV dramas or films, including KBS TV’s epic drama “Dae Jo Young,” “Nest of Cuckoo” and SBS TV’s “Giant,” to name a few.
